Business Phone System Installation

By Ken Marlborough
A business phone system consists of multiple communication devices connected to each other with wires. Installing a phone system becomes very easy if users are able to find used phone system wirings and other components from an old business phone system. In case they are unavailable, users need to purchase new set of wires compatible with the business phone system and use it for connecting different communication devices.

Connecting ten to fifteen local phones via a business phone system may require the same number of wires that need to be cut and connected according to their color. The standard connection requires connecting green with blue, red with blue having white strips, black with white having orange strips, and yellow with orange having white strips. Different types of tools are used in this process such as wire strippers, long-nose pliers, a screwdriver, and a wire-cutter.

Users should make sure that all the wires are firmly secured between the screws and washers, and is not just hanging on screw threads. They should be careful in removing insulation from wires as extra insulation removal can lead to short circuits when one bare wire touches another.

After the wiring and connection is completed, the system is tested to determine whether it is functioning properly or not. This is usually done by making and receiving a few calls. The phone system is then programmed which may include selecting ringing patterns, toll restriction, and inputting phone numbers for automatic dialing & getting names for caller ID. The programming process is continuous and is normally carried over many weeks as per the needs of the organization.

Users who do not want the hassles of dealing with wires can opt for cordless business phone systems that use radio waves to transfer voice data from one device to another. They are costlier than wired phone systems and unaffordable for low budget users.
